WHAT IS SIP

SIP - THE EARLY DAYS

The first project tackled by SIP was the then iconic Sun City project (circa 1978). SIP were subsequently appointed for the Sun City Entertainment Centre and followed by The Lost City Project. The brief was simple - 'Listen guys, I want to build a hotel in the bush out there which looks like something a forgotten tribe constructed centuries ago before being partly destroyed by an earthquake. The concept is that the remains were recently rediscovered and turned into one of the world's most luxurious hotels. I want lots of water, massive gardens, an established jungle and a golf course. Oh yes, I need the job done in 28 months'.

This was the brief from the mastermind behind The Lost City, Sun International chairman Sol Kerzner, and is where project managers Schneid Israelite & Partners started in their quest to turn his dream into a reality. The firm's involvement in The Sun City Project started in December 1977. Kerzner, who is known for his attention to detail, was recognised for his vision, drive and ambition. In the end, over 10 500 people pulled together to turn legend into reality. The local communities benefited by receiving on-site training which developed skills previously lacking and this transfer of international skills and technology have been left as a legacy and contributed to the development of both the people and construction sector of South Africa by raising the skills back in the 1970's. The faith shown in Jules Schneid and Charles Israelite by Sol Kerzner at the time was a tremendous boost for both the profession and the practice which led to a long and mutual relationship for 30 years. SIP was unique in that they were the pioneers of the project management field and they still to this day continue to remain ahead of the pack.

A DREAM FULFILLED

The trend set via the high profile of the successful projects completed for the growing SIP client base has led to the entrenchment of the profession in the industry to the point where authorities sought legislation for the registration of competent Construction Management Practitioners in the Industry.

SIP was unique in that they were the pioneers of the project management field and they still to this day continue to remain ahead of the pack.
